On Tuesday 14th March 2023, the National Subsea Centre (NSC) held its very first All Things Hydrogen Conference. Attended by over 60 delegates, the conference was an opportunity to hear from a range of insightful experts from across the hydrogen field to discuss the challenges, developments and opportunities within the UK energy sector.
Organised by the NSC’s Integrated Energy team and supported by RGU, Net Zero Technology Centre, Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association and Global Maritime, the conference covered three main themes:
Hydrogen Production Developments
The first session of the day was chaired by Nigel Holmes of Scottish Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association and included talks from Aberdeen City Council, Robert Gordon University, Net Zero Technology Centre, National Subsea Centre and ORION Clean Energy Project.
Hydrogen Storage Facilitating the Future
Following a panel discussion and short coffee break, the second session of the day was chaired by Professor James Njuguna, Integrated Energy Lead at NSC. The session welcomed speakers from Xodus Group, National Subsea Centre and Apollo.
The Integration of Hydrogen into the Energy Mix
After a networking lunch in the NSC’s breakout area, the final session of the day was chaired by John Butler of Global Maritime where the audience heard from Steer Energy Solutions, European Marine Energy Centre, Plus Zero, Cardiff University and Robert Gordon University.
Professor James Njuguna, Integrated Energy Lead at NSC, said: “Now more than ever, with the diversification from oil and gas to renewable energy production, hydrogen is an area of great importance and discussion. The conference was a brilliant opportunity to hear from experts in the field and learn from those who are pioneering new ideas. After receiving such positive feedback, the event has already set us in good stead for All Things Hydrogen 2024.”
